What are gutters used for and how do you choose them?

The function of gutters is to collect rainwater and direct it away from the building's foundations. In fact, water running off the roof is collected by the gutters and then channelled down the downpipes, meaning it does not come into contact with the foundations, walls or facades. They thus ensure the longevity of your home by preventing damp and water infiltration issues.

The main criteria to bear in mind when choosing your guttering are:

  • Annual rainfall: this determines the girth of the gutters, which has a direct impact on their capacity to collect rainwater.

What size of guttering should I choose?

Gutter profiles are available in standard lengths ranging from 2 to 9 metres, which covers the vast majority of requirements. To work out the length of guttering required, you must first draw up a precise plan of the guttering layout.
